So far so good. I got this one because it's half the price of the hyperlite camera pod and only a little more than 1 oz. The weekend after it came in I carried it 14 miles through the Sonoran desert and it was a wonderful addition to my backpacking set up I have a nikon D7000 camera. It fits snug but fits good.
It protected my Sony and fit in both of my back packs nicely. I needed a small camera back for travel and exploring the city that wasn’t bulky and was more easily transported than one that. I already owned from a different company. Perfect for my purposes, I would buy again and recommend this product!
Great Little Bag. I love this little camera bag! It protects my camera when I put it in my backpack, it's soft and doesn't bother me when I am on a long hike and I can open it with one hand for easy access to my camera. Best of all for me, it has a dry bag inside it that I can close and it keeps my camera dry in PNW downpours. Highly recommended!

Kick **** bag. I was given a camera working up in Alaska for the Forest Service and I wanted a nice minimal bag to walk around with. This thing is rad, fits my Minolta maxxum 700 perfectly. Love the hidden zipper pocket in the back for an extra filter, and the daisy chain systems is awesome. Have so much gear from matador and they never disappoint, still have my original 28 beast in slate and still holds up. Matador kicks **** .
Just what I was looking for. I'm very happy this camera base layer. It fits my Canon EOS R50 and it has room to use it with larger lenses on. I'm surprise at how practical it is. I love to take photos during my camping trips and hikes.This was a great investment for an all weather protection for my new camera. I wish they'd offer it in different colors!

Great case. I used this case on a recent trip. The case had plenty of room for my Canon DSLR and was easy to maneuver the camera in and out of the case. We also experienced a wide range of weather including wind and rain and the case did a great job keeping my camera dry.
Nicely built, but too small. Love the concept, but please make a larger version to fit larger mirrorless bodies (Sony A7rV) with either 24-70 or 70-200 lens attached (preferably w/ hood). I returned it until a larger size is available.

Great Bag. I have a Sony RX-10. Camera fits well even with the large lens hood attached. Pocket is small but sufficient for extra battery and cloth.
Handy weather-proof camera bag. This falls into the category of a "walk-about" bag, great for street shooting. Large enough to hold my Nikon Z7ii with a 24-120 lens, it's good for days when I don't need my bigger "system" bag with all its many accessories. Instead, I put a 77mm ND filter and an extra SD card in the 3"-deep pocket in the top. (Yes, I wish it were larger.) This bag is very soft and padded--in a down comforter sort of way. But despite its light weight, I suspect it will hold up-- though this, as other bags, won't protect against big bumps, I fear. Bag has no straps of its own —instead your camera's straps take their place. After you pull out the camera, you attach the now-empty bag to your pack or belt with the integrated carabiner. Finally, a magnetic latch makes stowing the camera fast and easy. And it's versatile: if I'm carrying my Sony RX100, I shorten by cinching in the bottom of the bag with the pull. My advice to Matador: make this bag for larger cameras and cameras with longer lenses. And consider a larger pocket!
Great design, wish it came in different sizes. Overall great camera bag design and concept. I really wish this bag came in different sizes to meet more camera body sizes. I have both a full frame DSLR and Mirrorless and it fits neither, which is a bummer seeing it says it is for mirrorless bodies and mine doesn't fit. The length for lens attachment is more than adequate, but the camera bodies width-wise do not fit. There should be a compact size and a full frame camera size.

Purpose built Bags- fits my fuji GFX 100s but not the Fuji GFX 50s. I bought 2 bags for my Fuji GFX cameras. The Fuji gfx50s I managed to get in the but it was an ordeal trying to get it out. The Fuji GFX 100s is more compact so it fits - a bit snug but I can get the camera in and out. It will fit with the GF32-64mm lens attached. The 100s with the 100-200mm lens attached is just too long for the bag. Build and finish of the bags are excellent! Please make a larger bag!!!
Perfect for my Sony a6600. This is a great bag to carry and protect my Sony a6600. It is a perfect fit and I love how adjustable it is. I had been wrapping my camera in a towel (believe it) for protection against bumps and drops of my backpack. This is 1000% better providing full protection. I am sure it will work very well to keep my camera dry on damp rainy hikes and treks.
Kept my gear safe on Kilimanjaro. Just got back from Mt. Kilimanjaro and this exceeded my expectations. I was looking for something that would keep my camera safe no matter what and this delivered. The carabiner was super convenient to keep my camera close enough to grab when I needed and I never worried about small bumps or setting my bag down. We were caught in rain/hail storms for about 2 hours on three different occasions and this was out the outside of my pack the whole time. Everything inside was bone dry when we got to camp!! If you need a reliable storage option that will protect against the elements, this is it!
Nice but not for standard DSLR setups. I like the idea here and the execution. Quality is good and it would be exactly what I was looking for. The issue is that it is too small for my needs. Nikon D750 w/ 70-200mm doesn’t fit. Nor does the 24-70 walk around lens. I will need to return it sadly
A great bag for my trip to the rainforest. I have been looking for a 'sleeve' type camera case for a while so when I found the Base Layer before my trip to Columbia, I was very excited to try it out. I made last-minute plans to go to Columbia so I was happy with how quickly the bag arrived. I was camping near the rainforest so. I wanted a lightweight, weather proof cover for my Nikon Z6ii, At first, I did not think it was going to fit my camera and lens. I had planned to take my 24-70 but, I also need an adapter so it was a bit too snug and I worried the seal would not work. I ended up taking my 40mm and as luck would have it, that is really the best lens choice for the trip (24-70 is heavy). I do recommend this product because it has served my needs, was easy to travel with (fits inside a larger carry-on bag), easy to use, and I have used it several times since I purchased it. However, it does work best with smaller camera bodies - mirrorless- and shorter lenses. The bag works great with my prime lenses, but not my zooms. It would be nice to have size options and an outside pocket.
Best camera holder I’ve ever bought. Tough high quality materials (and the magnetic clip is so satisfying and is unlike any I’ve seen before) ,after I saw how many prototypes they went through to get here I had to buy. ESPECIALLY the fact that it has a very reasonable price tag… considering buying a second one!!
Light, soft, and weather proof. This is a camera pouch that I have been hunting around for a long time (I needed something that was water proof, has a side zipper pocket for warmers/SD card/lens cloth and that also allowed the straps to hang outside. If you want to make the top waterproof you could roll it and fasten it with the side clips although that's not always idea - probably the main complaint I have. Otherwise a good pouch to use if you want something to safely hold your camera in backpack.
Small for my camera
Too Small for Canon?. I received my Matador Camera Base Layer this week. Unfortunately it's too small/tight for my Canon R5 mirrorless camera. I'd like to exchange it for a larger one if possible.
Well Constructed. This is a well constructed and though out camera pouch. A bit of a tight fit for my Nikon Z7 with an L bracket, but still works and is good protection for carrying the camera. Also make the camera a little bit less obvious when carrying in an urban setting.
Works for my 5D MkII, with a 24- 70 2.8 zoom. PROS: Snug, bug, rug, works great :) Life is good, I'm glad I bought it, and I'd buy larger for longer lenses. We sail, and it seals exactly like a drybag. CONS: Per other comments, more sizes may be desired, for larger lenses, bodies, yada, but for my main camera, it does the job.
Lightweight and padded — great for bikepacking with a compact DSLR. I'm use the Camera Base Layer for packing my compact DSLR, a Nikon D3300, on short trips and bikepacking outings. The bottom of the bag expands/collapses with a drawstring to fit different lenses. With a 18-55mm zoom lens or a nifty fifty, this camera fits snugly with the bag fully collapsed. With the end of the bag fully expanded, it'd probably handle a 200mm zoom lens with this camera. The bag is lightweight, and the material is not rigid, but is soft and flexible enough to provide padding. I'm comfortable throwing the camera into a duffle bag on a flight, or a pannier on a bike trip. The bag fits close to the body of the camera, so there's much less wasted space than with more rigid camera cases I've used in the past. I problem with delivery (not Matador's fault), and Matador customer service was really prompt and helpful in getting that resolved. Happy to recommend this base layer as a lightweight camera bag for a compact DSLR!
Fujifilm X-T4 with grip and X-T3 report. I really wanted to love this pouch/bag. It's soft and helps with waterproofing as well as cosmetic scratches. The bag is soft and squishable; there's no impact material/foam. Fabric feels good especially the webbing and the metal buckle at the rear. Magnetic clasp is nice. The cinch bottom to shorten the pouch is genius. X-T4 w grip: The extended grip that mounts on the tripod mount which increases the size of the hand grip, makes using this pouch/bag a really tight fit. So tight that in order to use, you'll need to pull the waterproof liner out and use that fabric to funnel/guide it into the pouch as you stuff it in as opposed to let it slide in on its own. Even as such, don't expect to have quick deployment and reinsertion of your gear. X-T4 no grip: Takes a bit of work to get your camera in and out. You'll have to pull the camera out from the camera neck/shoulder strap. X-T3: This camera is a bit smaller and works better with the pouch with or without the accessory grip. I would like to see a strap/webbing at the bottom to use as leverage to pull the bag off. I'd also like to see a large webbing at the rear for horizontal hip belt insert (like the Shimoda Top Loader design), thus giving it more options for mounting this pouch in different scenarios. If we can expand the length, maybe design it so it can expand the girth or width as well? Thank you.
Great Quality, but does not fit a7 IV. I purchased mine from B&H Photo. The quality is nice and is what I was looking for; however, it does not fit an a7 IV. It does state that it fits an a7r III, but the a7 IV is slightly larger. I'll be returning mine.
Well made and beautifully designed. I've been looking for a case that can protect my camera but not take up a ton of space when I throw it in my hiking pack. The construction is fantastic and the choice of materials is spot on. It's got just enough padding to protect it in a pack and the end cinches down when you're not using a long lens. The closure is easy to open and quick to close. Fingers crossed Matador make a larger version as it didn't fit my main camera.
Great protection. I’m going on vacation and di not want to bring a heavy camera bag, but wanted protection for my Nikon. This bag is great protection and light weight. I’m taking it on the plane and putting it in my on board bag and it doesn’t take up any extra room. Love it!
Size could be bigger. Wish it came in a larger size to fit bigger professional cameras with mid zoom lens. Otherwise nice.
