Most Used Utility Blanket I’ve Owned. This product has been used from grassy fields in Chicago concerts, wild parks in Utah, and beaches in Indonesia. It is probably one of the mostly convenient —essential — items I have in my day pack. If you love the beach, get it. You’ll always need a place to sit wherever you are in the world. It’s nice to be able to have a thin layer of protection from dirt. You travel, you get dirty, but it doesn’t mean you can’t minimize the mess. I like being sand free and dirt free when I soak up the su, music, vibes. This helps. Con: The white stitching is slowly unthreading. This is causing holes to appear in the fabric. Over time, I think it would be a big issue. The integrated stakes are rusting. Pro: size and foldability. It’s perfect and easy to stuff back in. Future Request: 1) Better material for multi-purpose use. I would love to have this in maybe XPAC or Dyneema. Durability with rainproof qualities. When I am on wet ground or sand, the pocket blanket retains a little bit of water, it would be nice to have material that doesn’t necessarily soak it up. 2) Rolling vs Folding. I find it easier to pack my things by making 1 or 2 folds and then ROLLING it into a burrito. It is a denser and easier way to compact thing. I see that the new towels come in a rolling bag. I request an updated “pro” pocket blanket with Dyneema/XPAC with a rolling bag rather than a fold type. Awesome ground barrier, awaiting version two with pro materials. Edit: I noticed this newer version removed the thread for the fold lines and are now printed, good. I have the older version of the pocket blanket.
Would be 5 Stars If…. I like this little blanket, it’s very handy to keep in my everyday bag/purse. However, I wish it had stakes like the pocket version… if it had stakes too I’d give it 5 stars!
Why are the bags different colors?. Small and convenient for travel when you just need a dry and clean place to sit. I don't understand why the bags come in blue, white, and black, when all the blankets are the same grey though... Would have been nice to have color choices for the blankets themselves.
Amazing Packability, Mixed Performance in Real Use. The size and folding design of the Matador Pocket Blanket is genuinely genius. It packs down incredibly small, and once you’ve folded it a couple of times, it’s fast and intuitive to put away. From a portability standpoint, it’s hard to beat. Where it falls short is in actual ground use. If you’re planning to use it at the beach to keep sand off your gear, or directly on the ground for sitting or lounging, it’s just too thin to be truly effective. Sand still makes its way through, and it doesn’t provide much of a barrier or comfort on rough surfaces. That said, the idea behind the product is excellent. Because of how compact it is, it’s something I’ll always bring when I travel. It doesn’t take up space, weighs almost nothing, and is easy to justify throwing in a bag — even if it’s not the perfect solution for every surface.
Love the blanket 4.5 stars. I have had the blanket for some time (green) and i love that it is water resistant really nice for damp ground and lay a blanket on top. I also love the portability. My only wish is to make one double the size of the standard (2-4) size. Keep cooking Matador love the products.
Disappointingly weak water resistance. Sounds great in theory, but failed to keep our three butts dry from wet seat cushions. Disappointing as wet surfaces was the main reason I decided to buy this
Handy on planes, too. This is just a super useful little blanket. As with so many small, thoughtful Matador items, you can see that the designers put time into how this would be used and what they could do to make it better. It's designed more for sitting on, but ours has served double time as a bit of extra insulation in chilly conditions (including on an absolutely freezing overseas flight this summer). I love the super small packing size, the tiny ground cleats (that tuck away when not needed) and the clever storage pocket, but honestly, the sewn on folding lines are perhaps the best innovation on this. It would be tough to get this puppy into that pocket without them. I put this up there with the Nanodry Packable Beach Towel, flat pak bottles and the Travel Ear plugs for usefulness. Matador creates certain small items that are game changers for comfort and convenience in a tiny package.
Great upgrade. I really like how the folding pattern is printed instead of sewn, but it’s still hard to fold up perfectly. The attached case is chic in that it is designed to show the top little bit of blanket…but in practice I wish it were bigger and folded over to fully encapsulate the folded blanket.
Very handy. I keep this in my EDC Sling and when it rained and the seating area was wet it came in very handy to keep my butt dry while everyone else around had to sit on the wet benches. People around commented "I wish I had something like that"!!
Perfect little picnic blanket. We love this! The little stakes are brilliant. Very handy for outdoor shows and events like the famous Concerts On The Square on the Capitol lawn in Madison, Wisconsin (IYKYK). Folds up small to pack with your other picnic items.
So small. Great to tack on to your sling just in case you want to sit on grass or a dirty, wet public bench while out touring for the day. And if it pours, well, you're covered.
Useful. Bigger (both packed and unpacked) than I thought. Which can be good. I had to get the smaller one to leave in my bag, and I'll grab this one when I know I'll need it. Large enough to accommodate several person, has some hooks to secure it, and easy enough to fold.
Useful. It is what you expect. Small and light enough that you can leave it in your bag at all time. I was disappointed it doesn't have the hooks to secure it to the ground that the bigger one have. I'm assuming to save weight, but including at least two (in the middle of two facing side maybe, instead of each corner) would be great. The solution is of course to weigh your blanket with sand/rocks so that it doesn't fly out, but you don't want sand on it when you get back from the water for instance, and rocks might puncture it... Anyway, a small thing, great product.
