"Will it fit MY backpack?" If your pack has a sternum strap, yes. The Speed Stash mounts to the shoulder strap and locks around the sternum strap hardware. Left side or right — your call.
"Won't it slide down while I walk?" No. Two HDPE locking bars trap the sternum strap hardware. It stays exactly where you set it. Mount it high near your collarbone or low near your ribs.
"Does my phone actually fit?" Matador tested it with an iPhone® 16 Pro Max and a Samsung® Galaxy® S25 Ultra. Both fit. So does a Garmin® inReach®.
"What happens when it rains?" The fabric is waterproof and the zipper seals shut. Rain stays out. It's not a drybag, so don't dunk it in a river.
"Will it dig into my shoulder?" The back panel is cushioned and breathable. It sits between the strap and your chest, not against bare skin.
"Is the zipper going to give out?" It's a #5 DuraGlide™ sealing zipper, co-engineered by Matador and Zoom®. Smooth, strong, and built to keep opening.

I have researched many shoulder pocket. This is one of the nicest. Certainly not the lightest however, nor the best volume, but it wins at being the nicest looking, and having the most compatible mounting wize.
Some of the competitors are lighter and have more volume. Some are easier to open (IE: magnetic flap) bust these require you to have a daisy chain mounting system on your shoulder strap. Also these competing options are not as snug and may present some movement.
The Matador stays firmly in place and works nicely with my sternum strap.
Handy pouch. Just started my first trip since purchasing this handy pouch, and I am loving it! Holds my phone even with my big protective case. Also keeps my chapstick handy. Can't wait to explore what it will do for me next!
I freaking love this thing. I purchased a bare bones hydration pack (USWE Outlander Pro), which I love, but sometimes I want to carry a few gels, or wear running shorts without pockets. Enter the Matador Speed Stash. I first tested it out on a regular backpack when I was out and about for the day, and it was great. This morning I strapped it onto my hydration vest and ran 20 miles. The thing did not budge at all. I had my Google Pixel Pro phone and four gels in the pocket. I cannot say enough good things about the Speed Stash!
It's such a simple accessory, but it's surprisingly useful. I attach it to my backpack strap and use it for things I need constant access to my phone, sunglasses, boarding pass, or snacks during long travel days. I didn't realize how often I was taking my backpack off until I started using this.
Versatile for Travel documents and small stuff. I went ahead and purchased with the Freefly16 small backpack (separate review). This will fit any pack with a chest strap that fits through one of the four slots on the Speed Stash. I thought I would use this with the Freefly16 for a 2 week sampling trip in the Peruvian Amazon area (Iquitos, Nauta, and remote communities in the area), but I used it more on my larger travel pack (Arpa 35L). It came in handy for keeping my passport and travel documents as well as sunscreen, lip balm, and money so no more de-packing and digging through a zip pocket for all of this stuff. Must have? probably not...nice to have and handy? absolutely.
I really like the quality. It’s practical for keeping my most important items close at hand, and it has become the perfect companion to my backpack. Highly recommended.
Great for iphone and mag wallet. I Read reviews about this being small but I was able to see in store at REI before buying and determined yes it’s small but my iPhone 16 pro max plus magnetic wallet and ear pods all fit nicely. Phone and wallet go in the zip pouch and I keep the ear pods in the mesh for easy access. This is good for when I don’t want to keep phone in the front pocket or elsewhere while wearing the backpack. It fits great on all my bags and is now always with me. It’s small but it’s the point and it is perfect size for the large iPhone keeping it secure and available without getting in the way of my existing gear and cross body bag too.
So helpful for backcountry tours. Another great and well thought out product from matador. I love how useful it it is to store my sunglasses and the phone in the front pocket if I need to take some pics of the sweet pow! As Always top notch quality build from Matador.

Travel day buddy. The speed stash is extremely useful. I used it as small pouch to put all my pocketable items in when I went through TSA. During days when I'm out and about, it's really nice to put my wallet and sunglasses in it.It's extremely secure when attached to the backpack too
pretty utilitarian. well made. I wish there was a more secure way to attach it to the shoulder straps. Easily accommodates passports but not all cellphones.
I actually own 2 of these, you should too. I actually own 2 of these. One is on my on my Matador GlobeRider 35 and the other is on my Boundary Supply sling. So yeah, I like them very much. Matador, if you’re listening, my only wish for future improvements would be as follows: 1. Make an extra pocket inside the zippered pocket to better improve organization. 2. I love the outside mesh pocket to put my phone in when I am traveling. However, there is not enough “there” to keep it from falling out when I bend down. A solution to that would be amazing. 3. A Fidlock key holder inside the zipper pocket (I installed one myself) to store keys and keep them safe. All that said, the size, materials, and overall functionality of this product is top notch. Super well made. Great size...fits my Samsung phone perfectly, and the wrap-around velcro strap is very nice and wide. Fits beautifully around the backpack strap.

Fits my needs. Fits my iPhone13 Pro max, wallet and keys with room to spare. The Velcro closure makes it easy to quickly shift across multiple bags. I wish I had this years ago.
Best affordable investment. This pouch has changed how I hike, ruck, and carry a backpack no matter the landscape. My phone is always accessible. When you fall down a mountain, sometimes you can’t access the main compartment of your pack. Or you don’t want to unclip everything to set your bag down to get your camera or phone out for a quick photo. This ensures your phone or emergency contact device is next to you at all times. Also dog poo bags. The Velcro is very secure and yes, I have taken many falls and slides and it’s never budged. Durable too!
Nice product great for traveling. The only problem I have is that it doesn’t stay in one spot. It’ll always slide to bottom of the bag strap. Not sure if my back pack straps are to narrow but other then that like it .
Great backpack addition. This is such a great little pouch! It removes the need to take the backpack off when reaching for small, immediately needed items. The only con I see with it is the fact that it slides up and down fairly easily on the strap.
